Marzamemi
In Syracuse county, 4km from Pachino, land of the famous homonymous small tomatoes, Marzamemi still today is a real fishermen village whose main activity consists in fishing and processing tuna fish and its by-products including a precious “bottarga” (dried fish eggs).
The character remains the pristine one, even if today many of the fishermen live in more modern houses and the original tiny ones are occupied by small restaurants, bars and some shops.
You get there coasting a marsh and, following the seafront running along the gulf, you get to the headland where the old settlement is. The whiteness of the houses is enhanced by the suothern sunlight and the crystal blue-green of the sea water. The “social” life, so to say, goes on in the candid central square, overlooked by two churches and where two bars open. Out of full season it is a delightful place.
