Antece and San Michele's Cave
Antece Over the lonely top of Costa Palomba for 2600 a stony warrior has been watching over the valleys which form Alburni mounts move further to Cilento's coast. The statue is an high-relief in nearly natural size sculpted in a rock looking eastward in the higher point of Costa Palomba. The warrior is armed with a sword (whose scabbard is still visible) and of shield, whilst, unfortunately, very little remains of the face... To get to Antece you have to follow the road that from Sant'Angelo village climbs up towards Alburni mounts as far as a point, non so easy to individuate and pointed out in the map here below, from where a path starts going up to the statue in 30 minutes.
Rocky church in the Cave of the Angel or San Michele Arcangelo's Cave Near this cave, situated just under Sant'Angelo in Fasanella village, in the XI century a religious community found place of members of Benedictine order. All around are the rests of a tiny monastery, whilst in the cave there still is a chapel with XIV century sculptures and frescoes, St. Michael's statue and a well. In the cave are also kept the relics of abbot Francesco Carocciolo. When we visited it the cave was undergoing restoration and therefore was closed.
