Guida turistica e fotografica del comune di Palazzo Ducale, provincia di , Mantova
Palazzo Ducale
It is an enormous architectural complex made up of numerous buildings articulating around various courtyards, gardens, orchards, a church, connected by hallways and galleries, realized in additions and incorporations starting from the two beginning centers in the 14th century, the Old Court and San Giorgio Castle. With a wise compositional work the two nuclei were first connected to each other in a grand design, with the construction, in the 15th century from three ulterior constructions: the Domus Nova, the apartment of Troia and the Rustica, and in following phases the design was completed wtih the addition of two ducal apartments, the church, and numerous galleries around various courtyards, also with very different styles. Together there are more than 400 rooms, and you can visit the Palazzo for free; you can only visit a portion of it, which includes the very famous "Camera degli sposi" (Bride and groom room) by Andrea Mantegna.
