Torgnon
Torgnon is a little village of Aosta Valley. Its main characteristic, beside the optimal position southward on the slope of a mountain, is to be made of a number of hamlets which were once all independent villages. To be exact they were 22: Gombaz, Nozon, Berzin, Chézod, Champagnod, Mazod, Valleil, Verney, Champeille, Tuson, Vesan Dessous, Vesan Dessus, Cortod, Mongnod, Ronc, Cheille, Chatrian, Pecou, Chatel, Septumian, Petit Monde (Etirol, Triatel).
For fans of sport Torgnon has 45km of ski runs with a spectacular 25km ring for cross country ski.
The village is not far from the very well known ski resort of Cervinia and the spa of Saint Vincent.
To reach Torgnon it's possible to use public buses connecting the main Northern Italy cities with Cervinia, or, if by car, get out of the highway at Chatillon, follow the direction to Cervinia and, when at Sant'André, take the fork forwards Torgnon.
The village is equipped with very good hotels and typical restaurant, the patron feast is for St. Martin, November 11th .
Staying in Torgnon to discover the history of the village it's worthy visiting the chapels which are in every hamlet and the Etnographic Musem of Le Petit Monde, and to wander in the hill country to enjoy the lively green landscape. There it's possible to make a pause to sip a drink sitting on the terrace of a chalet overlooking the valley.
When visiting the village one should not lose a very satisfying gastronomic itinerary, trying cornmeal porridge with deer meat and sausages, the “pappardelle alla valdostana” (a sort of lasagna), Toma and fontina (two different cheeses) to eat accompanied by a jam, Arnaud's lard with chestnuts and honey. These are only the most celebrated specialities to begin to know the variety of this cuisine, that may satisfy the most hard to please gourmets. If you wish to visit the mountain farms where the cheeses are produced, it will be sufficient to wear a pair of tennis shoes and walk for about 20 minutes in the country hill towards Cignana: the farms producing craftsman made cheese are always willing to explain to curious visitors the procedure to make cheese. Sport, nature, relax and a tasty cuisine are the bases of a satisfying holiday to take good care of oneself.
