Contigliano
Halfway between the Sanctuaries of Fonte Colombo and Greccio, at the opening of the Cupa Valley, Contigliano is a historic center typical of the zone, very well-kept, with beautiful pavement, with medieval stone buildings, some "palazetti" from the 1500 and 1600's, narrow pebble streets, the recently restored ruins of the Church of S. Giovanni (14th century) without a roof, all dominated by the 18th-century church of S. Michele Arcangelo. Inside this church is a beautiful cycle of late-Baroque frescoes, a majestic monumental organ, and various paintings of the Neapolitan school from the 1600-1700's. Surely open Saturdays and Sunday mornings, on the other days the opening hours are unfortunately all casual.... The old town was erected on the Roman ruins of Quintlianus locus, from whom it got its name. There aren't any shops in the historic center; shopping is done in the new town. Information 0746 7016125
