Nazzano is a small historic center in the immediate proximity of the Tiber-Farfa Nature Reserve. Before going down to the park (or after) you can go around the town. The interesting part is obviously that of the castle and its immediate surroundings.
In front of the base of the castle, you'll find the Museum of the River with free entry; the most beautiful part of this museum, according to us, are the rooms dedicated to the sandstone fossils, which were dug underground in a cave right into the sandstone of Nazzano. The works of the museum are in progress, and you'll probably find new halls open (when we visited the underground one it had just been finished).
Going out of the museum, turn left along the castle wall and go up among the alleyways of the small town until reaching the entrance of the fortress; you cannot go in, but the view of the Tiber, the towers, and alleyways are worth the brief walk.
The castle with cylindrical towers was built around 1200. From the other part of the town you'll find the small Early-Middle Ages church of Sant'Antimo with bare Roman columns and Cosmati-style mosaics.
