Ipogeo dei Volumni (tomb)

Leaving Perugia in the direction of Assisi, at about 7 km out of the town, at San Giovanni Bridge, immediately after the S-railway crossing, you will find a wicket entry door which you can ring.
In the entry on the large steps are a large number of clear stone urns, elegantly sculpted with chimera or battle scenes or heads of Medusa; in the middle of these opens, dug out of tufo, a narrow descent leading to the most interesting element of the site: the tomb called Volumni, named after the noble Etruscan family who owned it. A hallway lead to the main area at the back of which, in an spacious niche, you will find seven engraved urns, six Etruscan beautifully made in stucco travertine and one Roman made in marble. The tomb represents a house, with a around ten areas articulated around an atrium and the spacious center.
A brief walk in the archaeological site lets you see the localization of a series of other tombs; little else remains.
